PING created a new category – the Crossover – to combine the precision, workability and control of an iron with the speed and forgiveness of a hybrid. It’s not a driving iron; the Crossover is far more forgiving, higher launching and more versatile. An innovative cascading internal sole engages the entire face, sole and top rail in flexing to maximize distance.

Crossover - Distance. Control. Workability.
This breakthrough design creates a new club category to combine the precision, workability and control of an iron with the speed and forgiveness of a hybrid. It's not a driving iron; the Crossover is far more forgiving, higher launching and more versatile. A cascading internal sole involves the entire face, sole and top rail in flexing to maximize distance. Extreme heel-toe weighting helps locate the center of gravity low-back and expands the perimeter weighting to create a high MOI across both axes for maximizing forgiveness. The generous head is made from 17-4 Stainless Steel with a Carpenter 455 Steel face insert that is lighter and stronger so that it can be made thinner. Inside there is a Tiered Internal Sole just behind the face to enable it to flex a little more at impact and works with the thinner top line to generate some extra ball speed. Thier is a lot of weight in the toe to counter the weight of the club in the heel and create a head that maximises forgiveness. The G Crossover comes in a Ping Blue lie as standard, but like all Ping irons, can easily be adjusted using the notch in the hosel.
Its iron-like precision and workability comes from the flat, Carpenter 455 machined face, a narrow top rail, lie adjustability and appropriate offset. The face is flatter and taller than the G hybrid and it will generate more spin than an iron, but with a lower launch so that makes those stinger shots possible. The flight path is higher than the equivalent lofted G 4-iron and almost as high as the G Hybrid it acts like an iron at impact and goes into the turf so you therefore hit the ball higher on the face, nearer the middle, than you do with a hybrid. The wide sole gives a decent level of bounce to help it going through the turf just as well as a regular iron regardless of the firmness of the surface. The G Crossover is available in three official lofts of 18° (#3), 21° (#4) and 24° (#5) which seem to be on the strong side, but probably corresponds to flight heights as they do go further than you would expect for the number. The G Crossover comes with a lightweight Ping AWT 2.0 steel shaft or a Alta High balance point graphite shaft and both work well with the head.
Ping G Crossover Information
PING offers a variety of shaft flexes
in steel and graphite to meet your needs and preferences. Selecting the proper shaft flex for your swing will help you get the most distance and accuracy from every shot. Generally, players with faster swing speeds require stiffer shafts to keep the ball trajectory lower, while players with slower swing speeds will require more-flexible shafts to produce a higher ball trajectory.
The choice of Steel or Graphite
he choice of steel or graphite shafts is usually based on preferences for weight and/or feel. Players seeking a lighter overall weight and/or a softer feel in their irons may prefer graphite shafts, while players who prefer a standard-weight club with a firmer feel may prefer steel shafts.
